Teen Counseling

Support for Anxiety, Stress, Identity & Big Emotions

Being a teenager today is overwhelming.
There’s pressure to succeed.
Pressure to fit in.
Pressure to look a certain way.
Pressure to have it all figured out.
At the same time, teens are navigating friendships, social media, school demands, family
expectations, identity development, and emotions that can feel intense and confusing.
If your teen seems anxious, withdrawn, irritable, overwhelmed, or not quite like themselves, teen
counseling can provide a steady, supportive space to sort through what’s happening beneath the
surface.

What Teens Often Struggle With

Teens may benefit from counseling when they are experiencing:
- Anxiety or constant overthinking
- Panic attacks or school avoidance
- Low self-esteem or body image concerns
- Perfectionism and fear of failure
- Friendship conflict or social stress
- Emotional shutdown or mood swings
- Anger that feels hard to control
- Identity exploration or confusion
- Grief or major life transitions
- Family conflict or communication breakdown

Sometimes teens can’t fully explain what’s wrong, they just know something feels heavy.

How Teen Counseling Can Help

Teen therapy creates a safe, non-judgmental space where they can:
- Talk openly without fear of getting in trouble

- Understand what their emotions are telling them
- Learn tools to manage anxiety and overwhelm
- Build confidence and stronger decision-making skills
- Strengthen communication with parents
- Develop healthier coping strategies
Many teens feel relief simply having a place where they don’t have to perform, impress, or pretend.

How I Work With Teens

I approach teen counseling through connection first.
Teens don’t need to be fixed, they need to feel understood.
Sessions are collaborative and respectful of their growing independence. I incorporate:
- Honest, open conversation
- Emotional regulation and nervous system education
- Cognitive and mindfulness-based tools
- Identity and values exploration
- Practical coping skills for real-life situations

I also draw from my many years in public education, giving me insight into school stress, peer dynamics, academic pressure, and how teens navigate their daily environment. My goal is to help teens feel more in control of their emotions, more confident in who they are, and more equipped to handle what life throws at them.

What About Parent Involvement

Parents matter and so does teen privacy.
Successful teen counseling requires both.
I create a balanced approach where teens have space to speak openly and build trust in session, while parents remain actively involved in the overall process. Teens are more likely to open up when they know their words won’t automatically be reported back and that safety is often what allows real progress to happen.
At the same time, you won’t be left out.

Parents are included through scheduled check-ins, collaborative conversations, and practical
guidance to support your teen at home. If there are safety concerns, those are always addressed
appropriately and promptly. My role is not to take sides. It’s to help strengthen communication, reduce defensiveness, and
rebuild connection within the family system. Many parents find that as their teen feels more
understood, conflict decreases and conversations become more productive.
We work together as a team with the shared goal of helping your teen feel healthier, steadier, and more confident.

Note For
Teens

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious, stressed about school, friendships, family drama, or just
tired of holding everything in you’re not crazy, and you’re not alone. Therapy isn’t about someone telling you what to do. It’s a space where you can talk honestly, figure out what’s actually going on inside, and learn tools to handle emotions that feel too big or too heavy. You don’t have to have the “right” words, we figure it out together. You deserve a place where you don’t have to perform, pretend, or have it all figured out.

When to Reach Out

If your teen seems overwhelmed, anxious, withdrawn, reactive, or struggling to cope, early support can make a significant difference. You don’t have to wait until things feel severe. If you’re searching for a teen therapist who values emotional safety, practical tools, and real connection, I would be honored to support your family.
